The Saturday, April 30, 2005 assembly of the People's Legislature in Milwaukee was the cover story of the April 27th issue of Milwaukee's Shepherd Express.  The article talks about how the People's Legislature is not only engaging people who consider themselves politically homeless, it is effectively uniting a diverse collection of citizens around a common reform agenda and inspiring the creation of new groups of citizen activists at the local level.

Participants at the Milwaukee event raised many issues – from prison reform and health care to the role of private agencies in implementing the W-2 welfare program and protection of our lakes. Ultimately, the participants agreed that the People’s Legislature should remain focused on the pro-democracy reforms approved at the statewide citizen assembly held on January 4 in Madison, and the Milwaukee assembly affirmed the previously-adopted reform resolutions.

Those who took part in Saturday’s forum focused on getting more people involved in southeastern Wisconsin and planning future actions. An organizing committee for the Milwaukee area was created to do both.
