Northeast Wisconsin Region

The Northeast People’s Legislature forum on May 21st, 2005 in Luxemburg, a town just outside of Green Bay, was home to a politically diverse group of folks with many issues to discuss - some issues which the “Lobbyist’s Legislature” refuse to acknowledge, such as the stressful effects of globalization on our local economy, health care reform, environmental protection, and more. Green Bay Libertarian Roy Leyendecker, Green Party member Jill Bussiere, League of Women Voters Mimi Dobbins, and others were on hand to address some regional concerns, as well as the overall need for change in the current political system.

Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign addressed the group just before the floor was opened up, and spoke to the ultimate reason the group had gathered together, despite obvious differences of opinion on certain issues - the belief that a healthy, functioning democracy, allowing for the collective voice of the people to be heard loud and clear at the Capitol, can be achieved again in our state if we stand together and work toward the same goals.

Ultimately, the group devised a five-point plan and agreed to meet again before Fighting Bob Fest in September.
